Minutes of the International Conferences

On the occasion of the twelfth edition of the Festival, the main European
theoreticians and
historians get together in what will be the most important assembly of
experts in history. Some
unique evenings exploring the clown figure will find their presentations
written up in a special
number of the magazine La Factoria
La Factoria is an instrument for dialogue between those people who believe
that politics should be
a tool for the creation of  debate about ideas, Europeanism based on the
people, social cohesion
in our communities and cooperation between their different corporations.

Vicaire.
 "The whiteface clown costume".

In the same street as the celebrated Folies Bergčre music-hall in Paris, there was, from 1927 to 1993, a costume tailoring workshop which was responsible for dressing the most prestigious stars from the world of show-business. Its name was the "Maison Vicaire" and one of the owners, Gerard, was in charge of designing and tailoring hundreds of costumes for clowns.
Today, in the world of circus, we speak of a "Vicaire" as a work of art of show-business brodery. The catalog, published with the occasion of the homonymous exhibition held by the festival on its 20th anniversary, reflects on the history of the workshop and the whiteface clown costumes that were made there. With more than 200 pictures, it analyses the complex sewing and brodery techniques used in la Maison and, among many other things, the ornamental features clowns would display on stage.
